THE CHENA PROGRAM

The CHENA swim team is a fantastic place for your child to develop their swimming skills, confidence, self-esteem and overall character. Competitive swimming is a tremendous sport that provides beneficial by-products to the individual and the community.

The fitness acquired through our training program is second to none in terms of cardiovascular endurance and efficiency. The competitive aspect of our sport assures that our members bring out the best in themselves.Your athlete will go through carefully graduated stages as their physical development and mental attitude indicate readiness.

We have novice levels for beginners through to advanced, competitive training. The team also has social activities, various team functions as well as travel opportunities to other parts of Canada and the United States through competitions and training camps.The friendships formed in our unique training environment last a lifetime as our members grow with each other through team and self achievement. We support and build each other up, swim and train without limits and have fun challenging ourselves to continually strive for excellence.

PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY

These qualities help all of our members have a rewarding experience in the sport of competitive swimming and will give everyone the best opportunity to achieve their highest potential. Our programs includes dry land and mental skill work based on the age and level of the athlete.

JUNIOR GROUP - AGES 6 AND UP

Automatic Selection - Completion of I Can Swim Level 3 or Red Cross 7.

Consideration - Ability to swim 2 lengths (50m) of the pool continuously. Ability to bilateral breathe on freestyle. Ability to perform the breastroke kick.

Training - Attend practices on a regular basis. Be on time and ready to go. Participate in introductory level competitions. Learn the rules of the sport. Listen to and follow coach instructions.Sportsmanship and teamwork.

Dress Code - Training (dry-land) – CHENA team shirt, shorts, runners. Training (pool) – CHENA cap, swim suit. Competition - CHENA racing cap, suit.

PROVINCIAL DEVELOPMENT GROUP- AGES 9 AND OVER

Automatic Selection - Completion of Level 4 of I can swim or Aqua-quest 9. Consideration - Ability to swim 4 lengths (100m) of the pool continuously Ability to bilateral breathe on freestyle. Ability to perform the breastroke kick

Training - Attend practices on a regular basis. Be on time and ready to go. Participate in introductory level competitions about 1 per month. Listen to and follow coach instructions. Display sportsmanship and teamwork.

Dress Code - Training (Dry-Land) - CHENA team shirt, shorts, runners, sweats. Training (pool) – CHENA training cap, 2 suits. Competition – CHENA racing cap, suit

PROVINCIAL GROUP - AGES 11 AND UP

Automatic Selection - Any swim ranked Top 50 in Canada for their age. AAA time standard. Consideration - Any 5 events with AA time standards.

Training - Athlete is taking steps towards full participation in the CHENA program and is looking to make this their #1 sport. Perfection of training skills and habits. Attendance to all competitions. Development of preparation requirements in order to excel. High standards for heats and higher standards for finals Attitude - Team orientated with the desire and dedication to be the best

Dress Code - Training (dry-land) – CHENA team shirt, shorts, runners, sweats. Training (pool) – CHENA training cap, 2 suits Competition – CHENA racing cap, suit and track suits

YOUTH NATIONAL PROGRAM - AGES 13 AND OVER

Automatic Selection - Youth / National Time. Any swim over 700 pts on the SNC points chart. Any swim ranked Top 5 in Canada for their age. Consideration - 3 swims scoring over 600 pts on the SNC points chart. 5 events scoring over 550 pts on the SNC points chart. Any Top 25 swim for their age.

Training - Full commitment to the water and dry-land training schedule. Participation in training camps, mental & nutrition workshops. Attendance to all competitions. -1% or better at peak competitions. +1% in-season performance

Attitude - Team orientated persons with the desire and dedication to be the best.
